THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING

THE FIRST VOLUME IN J.R.R. TOLKIEN'S EPIC ADVENTURE' THE LORD OF THE RINGS'. The cover of this new edition of 'The Fellowship of the Ring' is based on Tolkien's own sketch of 1954. It shows the One Ring, within which floats the Eye of Sauron, with Narya, the ruby Ring of Fire worn by Gandalf, in opposition above it between stylised flames. Inscribed in red tengwar around Sauron's Ring is the inscription from the Black Speech, "One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them." At the bottom of the illustration are the other two of the three Elven rings, Nenya and Vilya, the Rings of Water and Air.
